Manuel Krone attended course on Genomics and Clinical Microbiology

The Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton, UK, is among the most excellent centres for genome research in the world. Manuel Krone attended a course provided by Prof. Maiden and his group.

IHM researcher Manuel Krone attended a one-week workshop on Genomics and Clinical Microbiology at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton, UK. He was among 17 other participants from all around the world selected out of more than 70 applicants. Manuel was trained in advanced applications of whole genome sequencing in molecular epidemiology, outbreak detection and infection control. Based on his scientific merits he received a bursary by the Wellcome Trust.

The training is very inspiring for his current analysis of serogroup W Neisseria meningitidis isolates from Germany during the European outbreak 2012 – 2019. It furthermore supports the transition towards whole genome typing that was initiated in 2019 by the NRL. Meanwhile, all isolates of the NRL are subjected to genome analysis.

31-yr old Manuel Krone is currently completing his training as a medical microbiologist and has a research focus on the epidemiology and prevention of invasive meningococcal disease
