The Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology of the University Würzburg provides a broad spectrum of diagnostic services for the Würzburg University Hospital and further hospitals in Franconia.
It combines clinical diagnostics, hygiene and state of the art research in infectious diseases with closeness to patient care. The Chair for Medical Microbiology and Mycology is among the international leading centers for the diagnosis of invasive fungal infections and leads the German national reference center for invasive fungal infections (NRZMyk). Doctoral Researcher (m/f)
The successful candidate will investigate the field of intestinal fungi and their role for and during nonalcoholic fat liver disease. Main topics of the project are:
- Composition of the gut mycobiome in healthy donors and NAFLD patients
- Exposition of fungal cell wall components and antigens in patient samples
- Interaction of immune cells and intestinal fungi
- Interaction of intestinal bacteria and fungi and their influence on the development of NAFL diseases
- Analysis of mediators of bacteria-fungi interactions in NAFLD patients
The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Division of Hepatology of the University Hospital Würzburg and the Department of Bioinformatics and is integrated into the lnterdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF) Würzburg. Salary is paid according to German TV-L (salary agreement for public service employees). The position is avaliable starting 1 / 2019, initial funding is limited for 3 years.
Requirements: Master degree in biology, genetics or life sciences. Experience, knowledge and good experimental skills in cell and molecular biology (flow cytometry, sequencing and sequence analysis), genetics and biochemistry are of advantage.
